Translating Bifocal
Along with the Centra Bifocal, another option is now available. The CLC Translating Bifocal can either be added to the Conoid, Centra, Multicurve, Centra PGA or SS Max design.
The benefit of the Translating Bifocal is being able to add the option of an inferior ‘add’, with clear Distance VA in the superior section of the lens.
SUITABILITY
Existing RGPS wearers progressing to presbyopia.
FITTING
- Use existing parameters of the patient’s current lens design, if achieving a well centred lens or with upper lid attachment
- Take an empirical approach with K Readings
- Use a trial set
- The CLC Translating Bifocal can be applied to an astigmatism cornea. This will help provide alignment of the back surface of the RGP along the flat or steep median depending on WTR or ATR astigmatism is found.
- Determine the midline of the visual axis and ensure the segment line is just below the pupil. Refer this to ‘segment line decentring’ and specify in mm. Eg: 1mm below centre. See diagram for detail.
- With a spherical back radius, a specific amount of prism is applied to ensure stability of the alignment of the seg line which is horizontal.
If it is a toric cornea, alignment of the lens must be determined to ensure the correct axis has the segment applied to it. - To achieve this method, order a toric lens and determine rotation. Advise the laboratory of the rotation.
The key to success is ensuring stability of this alignment of the toric back surface.
PER CASE PLAN
Per Case Plus or Per Case is recommended to ensure enough exchanges are available to fine tune the fitting.
Per Lens is available as a replacement only. If the lens does not work out this is an unsuccessful fit. CLC will give a 50% credit of the per lens price.

Corneal Lens Corporation NZ Ltd guarantees all CLCNZ made lenses against all defects in materials and workmanship for 30 days from original invoice date.
Patient breakage is reviewed on a case by case basis.
